Guide

Getting started: basic infrastructure

The first mistake in crypto is rarely about the market. It is about infrastructure: unclear networks, chaotic storage, and rushing into action before the basics are in place.

01

Set up your environment

Pick an exchange, set up a wallet, and understand which network you will use. Do not start with ten services — one is enough.

02

Build a verification ritual

Before every action: check the network, check the address, confirm the amount and destination. A boring ritual saves money.

03

Separate your storage

Working funds on an exchange. Long-term holdings in a cold wallet. Never keep everything in one place.

Infrastructure is not about aesthetics — it is about reducing preventable mistakes. Until there is order in your environment, storage, and verification flow, even a simple transfer can go wrong.

1. An exchange is a working tool

An exchange is for two things: buying/selling and quick access to working funds. Do not store everything on an exchange — only what you actively use.

When choosing an exchange, consider:

  • availability in your jurisdiction;
  • support for the networks and assets you need;
  • spot market liquidity;
  • two-factor authentication.

2. Networks — the biggest source of errors

The same token can exist on different networks (ERC-20, TRC-20, BEP-20, SOL, etc.). Sending to the wrong network is the most common and expensive beginner mistake.

The rule is simple: the sender’s network and the receiver’s network must match. Always verify this before confirming.

3. Wallets and storage

Three levels of storage:

  1. Exchange — for active work. Convenient, but you do not control the keys.
  2. Hot wallet (MetaMask, Trust Wallet) — for daily operations. You hold the keys, but it is connected to the internet.
  3. Cold wallet (Ledger, Trezor) — for long-term storage. Maximum security.

Do not keep everything in one place. Separate funds by purpose.

4. Verification ritual before every action

Before any transfer or confirmation, repeat:

  1. Is this the right network?
  2. Is this the right address? (compare the first and last characters)
  3. Is the amount correct?
  4. Does this need to happen right now?

A boring ritual works better than improvisation. One minute of checking can save thousands of dollars.

5. Security basics

  • Enable two-factor authentication everywhere you can.
  • Never store your seed phrase in phone notes or cloud storage.
  • Do not click links from unknown messages.
  • Do not connect your wallet to unverified websites.
  • Do not share balance screenshots or brag about amounts.

Questions

Should I start with the market or with infrastructure?

Infrastructure first. Until wallets, networks, and basic security rules are clear, any market action remains technically risky.

Do I need to learn everything at once?

No. Start with one wallet, one exchange, and an understanding of network differences. The rest comes with experience.

What is the most common mistake?

Sending funds on the wrong network and careless address copying. A simple verification ritual prevents 90% of these errors.

Need the next material on the topic?

After infrastructure comes the research routine and the public rules for reading the market.
